Tofvel
THE CONSCIOUS CHOICE
The hand-felted slippers are produced sustainably and socially responsible in Nepal with attention to people, animals and the environment. No extensive collection, just a few basic models for women, men and children, available in various colors. That is Tofvel!
SOCIAL
Each Tofvel is authentically made by hand in a small handicraft factory in Kathmandu, Nepal. Virtually the entire process is hand labor. Only a dryer and stitching machine are used.
The production is sustainable, ethical and complies with Fair Trade principles. Employees work here under good conditions and receive a fair income. Child care is provided and money is put into a fund for the employees' children. This allows them to claim a supplement for school or study.
LIFETIME
A Tofvel is felted wet and then shrinks around the last during the drying process. This allows the slipper to retain its shape better and thus last longer. The sole of 100% vegetable-tanned leather is for indoor use. The sole of partially recycled rubber is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. To ensure quality in relation to abrasion resistance and elasticity, 100% recycled rubber is not used. This gives you a hard-wearing sole that lasts longer and thus contributes to sustainability.
RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION
The wool felt is made with 100% pure new wool sourced from freely grazing sheep. The wool is washed and felted without the use of chemicals. The soles are made of uncolored and 100% vegetable tanned leather or rubber, 10% of which is recycled rubber. They are glued to the shaft with natural latex-based glue without solvents. Leftover wool felt (residual material) is collected to be reused for our Special Editions, the Lungta models. This way, no material is lost.
