In 1734 the Van Bommel family started in Breda, producing handmade quality shoes. Currently, the brothers Reynier, Floris and Pepijn van Bommel lead the family business as the 9th generation. The knowledge passed on from father to son is still applied today in the manufacture of the Van Bommel shoe.

Since 1952, Van Bommel has been a purveyor to the Royal Court by royal decree. The brands Schoenfabriek Van Bommel carries two brands: The traditional 'Van Bommel' with a wide range of classically designed luxury shoes and the sub-brand 'Floris van Bommel'. 'Floris van Bommel' is the brand of one of the 9th generation Van Bommel brothers who currently run the company. A high-quality collection of fashionable and sporty shoes is offered under the 'Floris van Bommel' brand.

Floris van Bommel
Floris van Bommel is the creative brain of Schoenfabriek Van Bommel. He and his team design the various collections and head the communications department. The soul that Floris blows into each shoe model regularly causes confusion on the shop floor. Label makers and sole makers who refuse to make a label or sole because they think they are being pranked with texts like “FvB. Since 1734, and still got no clue” or ‘Floris van Bommel Foodwear,’ are no exception.

Craftsmanship
With a history that goes back to the 17th century, Schoenfabriek Wed. J.P Van Bommel B.V. can call itself one of the oldest shoe factories in Western Europe. For nine Van Bommel generations, fathers have passed on the knowledge of shoemaking to their sons. It is the same with the many talented craftsmen who work at Van Bommel. For centuries they have passed on their experience and expertise to new generations. Even today, they ensure that every Van Bommel shoe is a truly unique specimen. This is not only because of the 280 operations and the eight-week production time each shoe undergoes. It is mainly because they use the best tools available: their eyes and hands.

Schoenfabriek Van Bommel still produces much of its collection in the Netherlands. Its own factory in Moergestel, the Netherlands, with its 140 employees, specializes in GoodYear manufacturing.”
