Secrid
A creative journey that changed the way we look at everyday essentials.
The Cardprotector was launched in 2009, but the Secrid journey began more than a decade earlier. In the 1990s, we ran our own design agency, Spirid. At the time, we noticed how the contents of our pockets were changing as the first electronic payment systems were introduced in the Netherlands. In 1995, as cash gradually gave way to payment cards, we created our first wallet: the Secrid Bodycard.
While design projects for clients such as ING, Maxi-Cosi, and Quooker remained our professional focus, Secrid was always at the back of our minds. Once again, we saw pockets evolving. With the rise of smartphones, the world was suddenly at our fingertips, while personal belongings were reduced to credit card-sized essentials. We carried less, yet the items we carried became more valuable than ever.
When the financial crisis hit Europe in 2008, client assignments came to a halt. After 25 years of living and working together, we felt it was the right moment to pursue our dream: building our own brand with a vision to make people look differently at what they carry in their pockets. At that point, Secrid transformed from a side project into our main focus.
The first version of the Cardprotector won the Red Dot Design Award in 2010. That same year, we introduced our line of leather wallets. Two years later, our Miniwallet received the European Aluminium Award.
Since the beginning of the Secrid journey 27 years ago, we have continued to combine our backgrounds in fashion and product design to create pocket-sized products — all designed and made here in the Netherlands. We are honoured by the awards we have received, and perhaps even more by the growing community of Secrid enthusiasts around the world. Today, our products are available in more than 8,500 carefully selected stores worldwide.
Together with our three children and more than 100 colleagues, we work from a renovated industrial warehouse that serves as one large family home and creative hub for new pocket-sized products and services. Since 2022, we have proudly been a certified B Corp — an important milestone on the path we have been following since day one.
