How It All Began
It is the summer of 1986. Bart Koene successfully sells handmade swim shorts on the très chic beaches of Saint-Tropez. One of the girls helping him wraps a piece of fabric around her head to protect herself from the sun, and soon people start asking if they can buy this “cool” bandana. That was the eureka moment. Bart decided to focus on headwear, and just a few years later the BARTS® brand was born.

BARTS® has grown over the past thirty years. This is because the brand believes that the items created today should be the vintage of tomorrow. BARTS® is known for winter accessories such as hats, scarves, and gloves, but in recent years the brand has also introduced a complete summer collection with bags, hats, and swim and beachwear for women, men, and children. A completely new and exciting chapter. From comfortable beanies to feminine bikinis, each piece is unique.

Located in the Houthaven district of Amsterdam, historically known as the “timber harbor,” the BARTS® headquarters is now situated in a vibrant, green neighborhood. Where wood once was the defining material of the area, fabrics now take center stage.
