Dutch Shoe Brand Van Bommel to Become SwallowVan Bommel to Become Swallow
2 June 2026A name change is on the horizon for the iconic Dutch footwear brand Van Bommel. To avoid confusion between the brands Floris van Bommel and Van Bommel, the latter will continue under the name Swallow from the end of 2026, the company announced in an interview with the Belgian newspaper De Tijd.
The Van Bommel line, which consists primarily of classic footwear, accounts for less than 10 percent of the family company’s total revenue. As a result, the brand name will be changed at the end of 2026.
The name Swallow is a reference to the swallow bird featured in the company’s logo, which Van Bommel also used decades ago. “We hesitated for a moment, because the word swallow has other connotations as well, but we decided to go with it because we find it beautiful, graceful, and elegant,” creative director Floris van Bommel told De Tijd.
The Van Bommel family has been making shoes for centuries. According to the company’s website, the first pair of shoes was produced in 1718. Today, the business is led by the ninth generation of the family—brothers Floris, Reinier, and Pepijn van Bommel.
